Sheila Roush Obituary

Sheila Ann Roush (Myers) died on Monday, January 23, 2023 at her cherished Ohio River home, surrounded by loved ones.

Sheila was born on June 28, 1947 in Hickory, North Carolina.  She was preceded in death by her father Paul N Myers in 1988, her mother Margie Celeste Sain Myers in 2020, and sister Paula Myers Maddox in 1994.

Sheila is survived by her husband of 55 years Frank B. Roush of Manchester, son Blaine Roush and “apple of her eye” grandson Greyson Roush of Batavia, daughter Jessica Roush of West Union,  and sister Gail Swanson (Joe) of Lexington KY.  Sheila also leaves behind nephews Ryan Gillespie, James Maddox and Jack Roush, Jr. (Laura) and nieces Christi Gillespie, Bethany Maddox, LaSasha Swanson, Susan Roush McClenaghan (Dale) and Patricia Roush (Fadrice), and special young men Ray, DeMarcus and Darius Surratt along with brother-in-law Jack Roush (Pauline), Dr David Curtis (Naomi) and Eileen Curtis.

Sheila lived with her family in Vale, NC until the age of eleven when they moved to Aragon, GA.  In 1963 the family moved to Maysville, KY where Sheila graduated from Mason County High School in 1965.

Sheila met Frank while attending Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Kentucky.  They were married on June 10, 1967.  They established their home in West Union, OH and began their careers in education.  Sheila received her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Cincinnati in 1974 and her Master’s Degree from the University of Dayton in 1983.

Sheila was a natural leader with strong convictions.  She sought leadership positions during her 35 years in education as a teacher, administrator and curriculum supervisor.  She left a legacy of achievement and professionalism.  She served on the Adams County Children Services Board, was a past president of the West Union Women’s Club, and served many other community organizations.  She was a member of the West Union Methodist Church for over 50 years.  She was a lady of enduring faith.

The term “Steel Magnolia” is used to describe a woman who has faced adversity full on with grace, poise and dignity.  Sheila was the epitome of a steel magnolia in strength and character.  She was lovingly loyal to her family and friends.  She was the first to activate the Casserole Brigade of her circle of friends in times of need.  She knew how to nurture others with great food and an ever-present sense of humor.  She quietly helped underprivileged families shop for food, sometimes helping corral their children in the grocery store aisles.  Sheila freely shared her unconditional kindness with others.  She enriched the lives of many under her nurturing wing.

Our world is less without this very special lady, but we are grateful for the blessings of having known her.  Sheila’s memory and spirit will endure, “forevermore!”.
